Nyack

Café Barcel’s menu is New American with Mediterranean and Latin influences. The menu changes seasonally and everyday the blackboard wall and mirror feature specials that change daily. Kevin Reilly, the chef, was most recently the executive chef at The Water Club in Manhattan. Reilly also was chef de cuisine at The China Grill and executive chef at The Silver Leaf Tavern.
Nidia Alexander, the owner, left the corporate world to open Café Barcel in November 2009. Nidia is of Puerto Rican and Spanish descent, which inspires the name Barcel. It is short for the Spanish city Barcelona as well as Barceloneta a town in Puerto Rico her grandmother and relatives lived. The atmosphere of Café Barcel is casual yet trendy making you feel as if you’re in New York City without leaving Nyack. It seats about fifty in the dining room and about ten at the bar. The restaurant also gives local artists an opportunity to showcase their art along the walls of the restaurant for a few months and a portion of art sales is donated to a local charity. Café Barcel also features local bands every Friday night this summer at Barcel nights and starting at 10pm.
-Café Barcel restaurant received a wonderful review in the New York Times as well as Rockland Magazine and was recently ZAGAT rated.
